How To See the Newspapers
(and if you need more help)

All of the newspapers listed are available on microform.
Follow these steps:

1) Click on the "Where Are They?" link below the newspaper listing you are interested in. Write down the information you see displayed there, including the "Reference Call Number" (or print the page with the info on it).
Below the newspaper listing should be a list of locations that own microfilm of that newspaper. To gain further information, follow the link(s) provided for each location. There may be more libraries that own the newspaper you are interested in but not listed. We will endeavor to list those additional locations as we discover them and as that information is shared with us.
2) Take the information from OnceNews.com to your local library and ask if they can borrow the paper (on film) for you. Most libraries participate in some inter-library lending/borrowing system, so you stand a good chance with a very low fee (if any).

3) Or, take a trip to the University of Georgia Libraries located on North Campus in Athens, Georgia. If you decide to go, here are some tips:

a) Call to make sure the Library will be open on the day of your trip. It would be best to call the Serials Department at (706) 542-7460. Ask them any general questions you may have about directions to Athens. Don't ask them to do your work for you, but do ask if they can verify that they have the paper and the year that you are looking for (just the year, you'll have to verify the specific date when you get there).

b) Visit the UGA Libaries Homepage

c) Go on a week day. The people who are best able to help you are there Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm (although the Library is usually open from 7:30am until midnight).

d) You can park in downtown Athens in the Parking Deck. From there you are a block from campus and a short pleasant walk through a very pretty North Campus to the Library (anybody can point out the way to the Library once you get on campus).

e) Go to the Basement Floor of the Main Library. There is an Information Desk there; if no one is standing at the desk ring the bell. Show the staff there the information about the newspaper that you need to look at and they'll point you in the right direction (please DON'T waste their time by telling them your family history, but please DO ask them for help if you need it). Everything is in Call Number order (just like a library, eh?) so be prepared to use the information you brought.
